Scramble along the seashore to forage for this amazing wild food, and follow it up with a cookery class to learn all about how to use your harvested seaweed! For those who have an interest in foraging and the outdoors but don’t know where to start, this is the perfect introductory course.
Seaweed is extremely rich in vitamins and minerals and the culinary and health-giving properties of seaweeds are once again being widely appreciated and enjoyed.
Your guide, Darach Ó Murchú, is an experienced, knowledgeable outdoor guide who is always willing to share his knowledge with enthusiasm and passion while stressing the importance of sustainable harvesting. Darach will help you to identify the tastiest species from amongst the 600 or more seaweeds to be found growing along our Irish shores.
After the morning of a low tide guided foraging walk you will be brought back to the Dingle Cookery School to learn how to cook numerous recipes with your seaweed harvest and sit down to an amazing, and well earned, lunch!
Some of the seaweeds you are likely to encounter on our shores are:
Sea spaghetti, Sleabhac, nori or laver, Pepper dulse, Dillisk, Kelp, Sea lettuce, Carrageen
This day begins at Dingle Cookery School where you will be greeted by your hosts and then transported to the harvesting site and back to the school for the cookery demo and lunch!
